Emotional Healing with Oils

I used to deal with panic attacks and severe anxiety. Back then I was a performer, and I experienced physical and mental reactions that were debilitating whenever I would audition or put myself out there in front of the world.

It wasn’t until I found yoga and holistic health practices that I was able to connect a lot of my limiting patterns and beliefs to physical areas of my body and mental health. I held a lot of my lack of confidence in my gut and stomach. My shoulders and heart would cave in, and I started even experiencing quite a bit of back pain and lack of balance. Through breathing, meditation, yoga and bodywork, and aromatherapy with essential oils, I found holistic tools that supported me in moments of panic or overwhelm. I was able to feel stable and balanced energetically, emotionally, and physically. I created new rituals that were not limiting and allowed me to operate at my highest frequency in mind AND in body. Emotional Healing comes from the inside out. It’s also a process and doesn’t happen overnight.

Emotions and mood management vary from person to person, and healing is an ongoing process that allows us to connect with ourselves in a deeper way. I wish we could wave a magic wand and heal all past traumas and triggers, however the prize is in the process. It’s something that you GET to tap into and learn about yourself.

Often we operate throughout our day thinking our emotions are separate from our physical bodies. However, our minds and bodies are connected in very beautiful ways. When you can utilize tools to connect the mind, body, and spirit, your energy and emotions can start to even out and allow you to feel authentically and vibrantly you.

Essential oils are one of my favorite tools for emotional healing.

Why Aromatherapy?

  • It’s Safe! It is a safe and natural way to uplift mood. Aromatherapy has been used dating back to ancient civilizations and comes from Mother Nature herself.

  • It’s Easy! You don’t need to be a scientist or healer to feel the benefits of aromatherapy. The brain processes the scent and creates an emotional response. You can determine what you’re feeling…so easy!

  • It’s Quick and Effective! Emotions are a response to your environment. Your environment is anything around you. You will generate a response the second that your brain processes the scent and creates an emotional experience in mood management.

  • They play well with others! Oils can be used with so many other forms of mood management. Put it in your bath or shower, facial routine, topically apply, diffuse, use during yoga or meditation, massage, sleep, exercise, internally taken..you name it!

How Does it work?

An aroma is inhaled and travels to the olfactory system, which is responsible for controlling our sense of smell. The olfactory system is connected to the limbic system, where our memories and emotions live. The limbic system then produces a response. The idea behind using aromatherapy for emotional benefit is that the user chooses certain essential oils to trigger desired feelings and emotions, particularly when aiming to combat or dispel negative emotions.

Each type of scent has an associated makeup and property. The brain does the rest. For example, Mint often has properties of uplifting and energizing properties because it’s made mostly of ketones. Florals tend to be calming, Citrus uplifting, Tree or Grass are often grounding and balancing, whereas Spice is warming. All have different chemical makeups and properties. Now every individual gets to personalize their experience with these. That is the fun part!
